The Princess's Man

Another korean drama that I've been looking forward to ended last night. And I must admit that I've mentally prepared myself for a cry-fest and surely cried myself to river to some scenes. Epic, moving, suspenseful and superbly paced, that's how I described this romantic melodrama and premium sageuk entitled The Princess's Man. I'm not a huge fan of sageuk dramas (you know, history) but I watch them for the fact that sageuk dramas are korean dramas. Well, the adults in the family, especially my mom (history buff) is a huge fan. She love sageuk like Dae Jang Geum (Jewel in The Palace), Jumong, and Queen Seon Deok. But I'm kind of loving it now. I'm starting to believe it's hereditary.

For those of you who are not familiar with kdramas, Sageuk refers specifically to historical drama. I mean, old school, dynasty thing, antiqued speech and costumes. Ok, back to this drama, you see, it ended in a way I didn't expect. Surely, like the antagonists are going to die and the main characters will also follow them. My mind is preoccupied with death, death everywhere. Good thing it didn't ended that way. The Princess's Man has been touted, more than anything, as a Joseon-era  Romeo and Juliet story. While the Romeo and Juliet comparison is certainly appropriate given the star-crossed-lovers premise, this drama bring so much more. There’s political intrigue that’s fast-changing and compelling. But for me, this drama is not depressing. There’s conflict and angst and romantic tension, but it’s not drawn out in a gloomy, mournful way. It also shows a fathers love to his daughter. And oh, it was based on Korean true history, I mean some characters are real and lived centuries ago in Joseon era. In almost every respect, The Princess’s Man delivers a solid, emotional, gripping storytelling punch.I have to admit that the drama didn't get me straight in the heart even though mentally I was completely engaged. (Even though, it didn't get straight in the heart, I had this cry-me-a river thing, these eyes fault!)

Don't expect me to be recapping kdramas here, I'm a lazy thinker. Just bare with the rantings and whatsoever.
